![]() Prince Casmir plays a significant role, and the Jung are back on the offensive after taking a serious beating. The Ghatazak's Telles has got to be one of the highlights. And despite the fact that in the back author Ryk Brown promised another episode soon, I'm still bumming. The only real problem with "A Show of Force," the 13th in the Frontiers Saga series, is that I've completed reading it. Kafer has narrated all the books in the series, which I think is great to have only one narrator for the series. Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job narrating the book. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Brown continues to build his characters and adds new ones. The action is non-stop and the pace is fast. In fact, Brown’s writing improves with each book. Oh, how could he! The book ends in a cliff hanger. Unfortunately, Brown kills off one of the key characters. The Arora faces off two Jung battleships alone. Jessica once again goes undercover on a strange planet. He hopes to save them from destruction by the Jung and convert them into allies for the Alliance. In this book the repairs are in process and Nathan sets out to clear the Jung from neighboring star systems. The Arora and Celestia are all shot up and the asteroid repair station is also damaged. ![]() ![]() In the last book, Earth has been cleared of the Jung. ![]() This author does not go back and fill in details from prior books. ![]() The series should be read in order otherwise the reader is lost. It has been great fun watching Ryk Brown evolve into an excellent author. ![]()

![]() Wallace told no one about this, nor did he attend his father’s funeral.īrandon Taylor. Early on in the narrative, Wallace’s friends discover that his father passed away a few weeks ago. Set over a late summer weekend, the novel is a snapshot of Wallace’s life in the aftermath of his father’s recent death. With its icily cool sentences, mysterious tonal shifts and determinedly open ending, Taylor’s novel is also a curiously liquid thing, with troubling, opaque depths. Wallace soon reflects that “there was something slick in the water, something apart from the water itself, like a loose second skin swilling under the surface”. In this formally and conceptually testing book, however, such moments of repose are never without threat. On the Friday evening on which Real Life begins, Wallace abandons his carousing colleagues and the bars of their midwestern university for the tranquility of a local lake. W allace, the queer black biochemistry postgraduate at the centre of US author Brandon Taylor’s Booker-longlisted debut, often seeks out solitude. ![]() ![]() With nothing more than the clothes they stood up in, the family of nine took the train to Liverpool where they hoped to rebuild their shattered lives.
